Question: Will Pine Pollen Cause Endocrine "Shut Down"?

Answer:

A lot of people ask about endocrine "shut down" in regards to Pine Pollen, and for good reason. The majority of hormones operate in the body in what is called negative feedback, meaning that when there are optimum levels of a certain hormone, the gland responsible for that hormone receives a signal that "shuts down" production on that hormone. When the levels dip, that gland is told to turn back on, and production starts again.

If the glands are not being used for the production of hormones, they can begin to atrophy. Bio-identical (pharmaceutical) hormone replacement therapy, and the abuse of steroids for building muscle, will cause atrophy of the glands responsible for the production of the hormones that are being replaced. This is because the hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones that the body produces. With a constant flooding of identical hormones, the body does not produce any of its own, leading to atrophy.

The androgens in Pine Pollen are molecularly similar enough to not cause any of the undesirable side effects of pharmaceutical hormones, and will not cause "shut down," but they are close enough to provide all the benefits of having elevated levels of hormones. Not sensing an abundance of its own hormones, the body keeps on producing hormones, while you benefits from the effects of Pine Pollen.

Like all nutritional supplements and foods, the body likes change. I recommend taking a few days off of Pine Pollen every few weeks, just like I recommend taking a routinely few days off of all vitamins and nutritional supplements, and varying the diet daily.

Question: What is the Shelf Life of Your Pine Pollen?

Answer:

The shelf life on Pine Pollen Tincture is indefinite, like it is with any tincture. I recommend using our Pine Pollen Tincture within one year.

The RAW Pine Pollen needs to be stored in an air-tight container, in a cool dry place. The pure pollen has the potential to accumulate moisture, and needs to be kept sealed and dry. Use the pollen within two months after opening to prohibit any moisture from accumulating in the pollen. Other than that, dry pine pollen (like it is when shipped) will keep indefinitely. I recommend always using fresh Pine Pollen to maximize potency.

Question: Is Pine Pollen only for Men, or are there benefits for Women, too?

Answer:

For men who are estrogenized, due to diet and lifestyle, and due to Andropause, Pine Pollen actively decreases the high levels of estrogen and restores healthy levels of testosterone in the body. Pine Pollen will restore healthy levels of testosterone.

If men are exhibiting the outward effects of high estrogen (excess breast tissue, "beer" belly, as well as lowered sperm counts and/or ED), pine pollen will have the effect of "re-masculinizing" them, and they'll be very happy with the differences.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, and in my own experience, pine pollen is specifically indicated for women seeking to restore healthy hormone levels of estrogen to testosterone. The same dietary and lifestyle concerns for men and cause a myriad of cascading problems in women as well (see a related article at the RAW Forest Foods BLOG) For building energy and vitality, in men and women, especially at menopause/Andropause, pine pollen is fantastic. Like the linked article states, elevated levels of estrogen in women will lead to bone loss and sexual malfunction, and pine pollen will reverse these effects.

Question: Do You Prefer the Tincture or Whole Food?

Answer:

I originally became interested in pine pollen tincture as a medicine to rebuild my system after a chronic illness and the treatment of that illness. Pine pollen tincture brought me back from illness to health. I think that it is fantastic, especially because it is to easy: a dropper full under the tongue three times a day. This is produce noticeable effects, which increase over time. Immediately, you should expect to find a clearness in your mind and an ability to focus like you've only rarely experienced before. Over time, and here we're talking about a month or so, you'll begin to subtlety notice the effects of the tincture: you wont get sore after a workout, or you'll be in better shape than you realized. Muscle tone will change. Mood will drastically improve. Inside, a whole cascade of changes will be taking place, as a cause of the dropping levels of estrogen to testosterone in the body. This will be fat burning throughout the system, and the building of lean muscle, having direct consequences on everything from diabetes to heart disease. Essentially, your body will be re-masculinizing. Something that most people do not realize that men are supposed to live as long as women, but our life spans have been dropping in direct relationship to the amount of xeno-estrogen, in the form of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fertilizers, and plastics, that we are putting into the environment. The health problems that effect men are a direct consequence of these estrogens and it becomes our responsibility to combat the feminization of our bodies. It sounds very science fiction, but it is rooted in hard science. Check out The Natural Testosterone Plan by Stephan Buhner for a full, highly referenced, discussion of this.

The raw pine pollen is more of a food, and will be targeting the entire system. Think of it less like a medicine and more like the most nutritious food that you could ever get your hands on. Your body will respond in very positive ways to having proper nutrition. I eat the pine pollen every single day, because it makes me feel 500%, as a complement to my diet. Here, I'm not targeting the testosterone that is in pine pollen, but using it as a nourishing food. Different, though similar, applications.

While I want every man to be aware and engaged in the excess levels of estrogen in our bodies, and how a lot of prevalent health concerns are caused by this, and that pine pollen tincture is a easy and effective way in restoring the delicate endocrine system (specifically that ratio of testosterone to estrogen), you ask me what I prefer, and in my own practice, I prefer the raw food.

Sorry, I know this is a long winded e-mail, but it is a very serious topic. Hope it helps.

If you are interested in the tincture, I would highly recommend a combination of the two as a long term goal, and the eventually stopping the tincture and just eating the food.

Question: What are the Health Benefits of Pine Pollen

Answer:

As I recently covered in a Blog post at the RAW Forest Foods Blog, Pine Pollen is, first and foremost, a highly nutritious food. So when you are asking what the health benefits of Pine Pollen are, you are actually asking, "what are the health benefits of proper nutrition though consuming Pine Pollen?" And this is a very interesting question, a very interesting question which takes a little leap in our understanding of health.

This little leap is a change in our understanding of "health benefits" and of "symptoms" of disease. Many (most? all?) of the rampant negative health conditions plaguing the modern world are not caused by a disease, in the convention sense of a disease being caused by a pathogen. Rather, what is plaguing us is improper nutrition. We don't have symptoms caused by disease, we have--instead--the sub clinical manifestations of improper nutrition.

Let's take a look at how this new model of thinking fits into some conventional medical knowledge: scurvy is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C. Now, in this new model of thinking, we would not say that Vitamin C is a cure for the symptoms of scurvy, but that a lack of Vitamin C causes a set of symptoms which we call scurvy, and that proper nutrition alleviates those symptoms.

In the same way, we see a lot of information on Cod Liver Oil, and how it treats/cures depression and heart disease. Depression and heart disease are not symptoms that effect a healthy functioning organism, and there is no cure or drug which will cure them. Not even Cod Liver Oil, and certainly not pharmaceutical drugs.

Instead, what we have are symptoms caused by inadequate nutrition. Cod Liver Oil does not cure these diseases; instead--and this is the important element--it satisfies the body's need for nutrition, relieving the symptoms of an improperly fed body. We have to look at the majority of disease as improper nutrition, because that is exactly are

Through the consumption of Pine Pollen we see many positive health benefits.

Traditionally, and for literally thou sends of years in China and Korea, Pine Pollen was taken to promote longevity and vitality. Current research shows the strong anti-aging benefits of Pine Pollen, do to its very specific amino acid profile. One of the most profound health benefits of Pine Pollen is the tonifying effects on the body and the huge increase of energy, caused by proper nutrition. Pine Pollen is not a stimulating drug, and contains no stimulants, though it is more energizing than caffeine. Though Pine Pollen's unique ability to restore healthy endocrine levels, Pine Pollen aids in recovery time from exercise, and aids in building lean muscle. Pine Pollen reduces excess estrogen levels in the body, caused by the plethora of xeno-estrogen in the environment and the over consumption of phyto-estrogen containing foods, like soy, hops, and licorice. By reducing these levels of estrogen, and conversely raising healthy levels of testosterone, we see a massive change in body physiology. In this way, we see energy increase, we see fat loss and an increase in lean muscle. We also see Type 2 Diabetes improvements, ED improvement, and greater libido. Less sleep needed and waking refreshed.

Question: How does Phyto-Androgen affect the Endocrine System?

Answer:

Most hormones in the body are controlled through a negative feedback mechanism, where increased levels of a hormone are sensed by receptors, and messages are sent to reduce the production of that hormone. In this way, when levels drop, the message is sent to increase production of the respective hormone. Most hormones in the body work though negative feedback, and only a few work through positive feedback. An example of positive feedback is child birth, where the presence of the hormone oxytocin causes a further production of that hormone.

The negative feedback response of hormone production causes alarm when discussing hormone replacement therapy, and for good reason: bio-identical hormone replacement can cause the atrophy of hormone producing glands in some people. An often told example of this is testicular atrophy in adolescent and teenage males, caused by steroid use. In this case, bio-identical testosterone causes the negative feedback mechanism to arrest testosterone production in the testes, causing possible atrophy in the glands. Because the body is thrifty, sensing adequate levels of a hormone, it knows not to produce extra.

In the case of phyto-hormones, like phyto-androgens (eg. pine pollen) or phyto-estrogens (eg. soy), the plant hormone is not identical to the animal hormone--is it not bio-identical. The effects of the hormone are very similar, but they are not sensed by the receptors linked to the negative feedback system, and do not trigger the cessation of hormone production.

For people interested in pine pollen for its phyto-androgen properties, this means that pine pollen does not trigger the body to stop producing testosterone.

For the endocrine system, pine pollen is used to bring hormone levels back into correct balance when they are otherwise out of balance. In this way, pine pollen seeks to restore healthy ratios of testosterone to estrogen in the body, when those ratios are otherwise influenced, through diet and environment, illness and disease, or age (Andropause).
